Art Edmaiston
Saxophonist with JJ Grey & MOFRO
Art Edmaiston began playing the saxophone at age 11 in Troy, TN and later moved to Memphis to attend college and apprentice in the city known for it’s talented performers and recording artists.
Being a reliable soloist and flexible section player has carried Art around the world providing opportunities to perform, record and jam with a wide variety of well-known musicians, producers and music legends.
Bobby “Blue” Bland, Wayne Newton, Justin Timberlake, Jonny Lang, Gregg Allman, Lucero, Galactic, the Memphis Horns, Jason Isbell & the 400 Unit, the Allman Brothers Band, Robert Walter, Jim Dickinson, Robert Randolph, The Bo-keys, Deke Dickerson, John Nemeth, Mason Ruffner, Jeff Powell, and the Coasters have all called on Edmaiston for stage and studio work.
Art was thrilled to be asked to anchor the horn section for JJ Grey & Mofro at the beginning of 2007 and can be seen and heard playing saxophone on stage and on all of the band’s recordings since that time.
JJ Grey & Mofro plays almost 200 dates a year nationally – performing in sizable venues in major cities and college towns for a very diverse crowd of music lovers. When not on tour with JJ Grey & Mofro, Edmaiston works in many different situations at home in Memphis. He can be found playing on World Famous Beale Street – the Home of the Blues as well as several different clubs throughout the city.
Along with having several years of experience playing and studying the saxophone, Art has also been employed at Amro Music Store, Inc. in Memphis, TN since 1993. Four years experience in retail band and orchestral instrument sales and sixteen years as a woodwind technician specializing in saxophone repair has given Edmaiston knowledge in key areas of his profession. His time at Amro Music has afforded the opportunity to befriend most musicians in the Mid-South area.
