Eddie Baccus Jr

Eddie Baccus Jr., was born on 10/22 to Eddie Baccus, Sr. & Dolores J. Baccus. He began playing the Oboe in the fall of 1988 under the study of John Zipay in high school. Upon returning from the holiday vacation, he discovered that another student, who kept the instrument during the vacation period, had broken the Oboe. Therefore, Eddie started playing the saxophone in January 1989. After graduating from John Hay high school, he attended Berklee College of Music’s 5-week summer program, during which he received a full scholarship.

In the fall of 1989, Eddie went to New York and performed at the world famous Apollo Theatre in Harlem and won, 5 times off air and 2 times on air. Also, while in New York he studied with acclaimed saxophonist, Joe Lovano. After returning home, he volunteered for a year at the Cleveland School of the Arts 1990-91.

In the summer of years 1993, 1994 and 1995, Eddie went on tour with a play called “A Good Man is Hard to Find, ” Directed by David Payton. Also at this time, he was touring with world-renowned trumpeter “Lester Bowie.” Eddie began touring with internationally known smooth jazz group “Pieces of a Dream, ” in 1995 to the present. He has been recorded on 8 CD’s with the jazz group. “Pieces”, “Ahead To The Past”, “Acquainted With The Night”, “Soulful Embrace Vol.1& 2, ” “Love’s Silhouette, ” “No Assembly Required” and their latest CD “Pillow Talk.” Eddie has written and co-written several songs, one of his most popular songs written is “Knikki’s Smile, ” performed by him brilliantly on the CD “Pieces.” Other songs are “Love You For Life”, “Feliz Vida {The Good Life}, ” “Bela Voce {Beautiful Voice}” and many others.  He has 2 CDs for Shanacie Records “Touch Me In The Morning”, on which he performs “Always” by Atlantic Star and “Smooth Jazz does Motown’s Greatest Love Songs” on which he performs “Your Precious Love” by Ashford & Simpson and “Neither One of Us” by Gladys Knight.

Eddie has performed with and alongside such well known artists as Luther Vandross, Jeffrey Osborne, War, Candy Dulfer, Rick Braun, Grover Washington, Jr., George Duke, Bobby Watson, Greg Abate, Lester Bowie, EWF(Earth Wind and Fire), Regina Carter, Dianne Reeves, Vesta Williams, Norman  Conners, India Irie, George Benson, Miki Howard, Jean Carne, David Sanborn, Will Downing, Phil Perry, Najee, Gerald Albright, Kirk Whalum, Marcus Belgrave, Benny Golson, Bobby Lyle, Jeff  Lorber, Ricky Lawson, Aaron Graves (Piano”Little Jimmy Scott”), Lenny Castro, Lil’ John Roberts, Phil Davis, Chris Coleman,  Andre Gouche’, Giovanni Hildago, Eric Marienthal, James Carter, Curtis Fuller, Regina Belle, Rachelle Farrelle, Ronny Jordan, Rhonda Smith (Prince’s Bass Player) and Gerald Veasley. More recently, AWB (Average White Band), Stevie Wonder, Peter White, Walter Beasley, (Eddie plays on two cuts from Walter’s CD For Her “What Ya Feelin?” & “Coolness”), 2 CDs for Shanacie Records “Touch Me In The Morning” and “Smooth Jazz does Classic R&B, “Maysa Leak from the group “Incognito, ” Atlantic Starr and Ledisi Young.

Eddie is a well-rounded and talented saxophonist, he plays Sopranino, Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Baritone and Bass sax, Flute, Bb Clarinet, Bass Clarinet as well as the EWI (electric wind instrument) and sings. His talent is not limited to just smooth jazz & R&B tunes, but he also plays reggae, country, neo soul, big band, etc. Eddie has formed his own band “Straight To The Point, ” and this very talented group of musicians has performed at numerous locations all around the globe. Eddie has headlined several of his own productions. He also, formed a band and performed with singing artist “Vesta, ” during one of the awards ceremony for the “100 Black Men’s” annual event and has also toured with his group backing the female vocalist Angela Bofil and Frank McComb.

Eddie is currently working on his vocal and production skills, during the times his busy schedule permits. To meet this young man with his humble and warm personality is a pleasure & to hear him play will make you an instant fan desiring to hear more of his naturally talented gifts. He always gives more than 100 percent of his talent while playing for an audience of 10 or 100, 000 fans. Sold 10, 000 plus CDs from January 2009 to Present of the CD entitled “Journey To Love” and is currently finishing 2nd project which will feature Russell Ferrante, Robben Ford, Eric Marienthal. New CD Title is “Living The Dream”, due to release March 2011. Recent projects include, Pieces Of A Dream’s new one “Soul Intent” and “76 Degrees West, ” which is a high energy Nu Jazz/Funk Band, with Five horns out front (Trombone, 2 Saxophones and 2 Trumpets). And he is now attending UDC (University of the District of Columbia) on scholarship and played in the Big Band at the production of Sophisticated Ladies at The Historic Lincoln Theater in DC from March 2010 until the end of June.
