“Fred is using the AMT System 1” – Fred Delplancq

I discovered music at the age of 14 in my hometown of Elouges in the fanfares and harmonies and at the Academy of Music with Philippe Wattecamps. I still remember the sound of the piano my grandmother used to play on.
At 16, a neighbor introduced me to jazz by giving me vinyls, I discovered Lester Young, Charlie Parker, Louis Armstrong,
Harry James, … I’ve immediately loved that music without knowing why, the magic of life…
My uncle, a classical pianist, made me work classical music every Wednesday afternoon; he’s helped me a lot…
Around the age of 17 I joined a big band directed by Fabrice Alleman, which strengthened my passion for jazz.
After my laborious joiner studies, I entered the Conservatory of Brussels in the class of Steve Houben.
I reinforced my training of jazz and of the standards in the famous jam sessions of the regretted club “Le Travers”.
By dint of listening and meeting musicians, I’ve joined several bands such as “No Vibrato”, @70’s, T Unit 7,
Jazz Station Big Band, François Decamps Quartet, qUETZAL, Wrong Object, … but also various pop, reggae,
techno groups (“Tribute to Bob Marley”, Electro Jump : project of the pianist David Timsit, Astro Lounge, …).
I also teach jazz at the Academies of Nivelles and Ciney.
In 1996 I co-founded with Olivier STALON and Jean-Michel VENEZIANO the fusion band
qUETZAL in which we play our own compositions. We play the first part of John McLaughlin.
Accumulating experiences and favoring composition I founded my own bands:
Fred Delplancq Quartet “Second Time”: Vincent Bruyninckx: piano, Sam Gerstmans: double bass,
Toon Van Dionant: drums, Fred Delplancq: tenor sax and compositions new album Talisman released on November 15 2007
Fred Delplancq Quartet: Jef Neve: piano, Guus Bakker: double bass, Kris Duerinckx: drums, Fred Delplancq: tenor sax and compositions First album: Witches Dance released on June 12 2004
“South Spirits”: The point is to re-invent the love story between jazz and Afro-Cuban music and to give the public “something to travel, dream and dance”. To make this project come true, he gathered a kind of exhilarating “All-Stars” with the too rare Gina Lattuca (trumpet), Michel Herr (piano) and Jean-Louis Rassinfosse (double bass). The polyrhythmic section is in the hands of the eternal Bruno Castellucci (drums) and of the sparkling Michel Seba (percussion).
I’ve played and worked with jazz musicians since 1996 in various musical contexts:
As freelance or substitute in combos or big bands such as: Wrong Object, A Train Sextet (Duke Ellington Project) of Jean Warland,
Ecaroh of Richard Rousselet, No Vibrato of  Etienne Richard, Marc Bienfait Quartet, West Music Club, Doctor Gabbsn,
Vincent Bruyninckx Quartet, David Timsit, …And amongst others, with Jan De Haas, Bruno Castellucci, Jean-Louis Rassinfosse,
Michel Herr, Bilou Doneux, Chris Mentens, Ivan Paduart, Antoine Cirri, Gino Lattuca, Michel Paré, Mina Small, Phil Abraham,
Jean-François Prins, Judy Niemack, Piet Verbist, Sébastien Beaumont, Michel Seba, Jacques Pirotton, Marc Lelangue,
Richard Rousselet, Mimi Verderame, Michael Blass, Philippe Aerts, Elton Dean, Jeroen Van Vliet, Bart Van Cannegem, …
I’ve played in clubs and festivals in Belgium but also abroad (France, Italy, Spain, Caribbean’s, Greece, Turkey, Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland, …)
