Ken Newman

Instrument: Piano/Sound Engineer AMT Products Used: M40

“AMT has the COOLIST piano mic! It’s small…it’s designed to just sit there on the harp of the piano. You just put it in there, and PRESTO, true sounding piano! Minimal (less than any other mics I’ve used before) leakage, plenty of gain before feedback, and finely crafted. Made right in the USA and very reasonably-priced too! Check it out the next time you need to mic a piano, and get an accurate reproduction of the piano.” – Ken Newman

Ken Newman is the consummate professional in the audio engineering industry. Top performers and musicians, known for hiring only the best, have had the honor of working with him, and continually ask him back.

Ken’s diverse experience includes design, installation, use, transportation and interfacing of sound systems for concerts, special events, videos and more. Whether it’s front-of-house mixer, recording engineer, remix engineer, or monitor mixer, Ken’s talents are hard to beat.

Barry Manilow, Chris Isaak, Julio Iglesias, Anita Baker, Paul Anka, Gordie Brown, Burt Bacharach, Sergio Mendes and Liza Minnelli are just a few of the top artists who have experienced Ken’s work. “Ken Newman is the finest live sound mixer I’ve ever worked with. The artists and audiences who get to benefit from his talent are very lucky, indeed.”–Barry Manilow

Ken’s interest in audio recording started in high school. He borrowed a friend’s tape deck to record the school’s band (Ken played trumpet), along with some of the local rock bands in northern New Jersey. Eventually, Ken started working with these bands as their sound man. He also helped a friend start his own recording studio. All this was before he even turned 18.

After graduating high school, Ken went to work for a New Jersey sound company and later, a local promoter. In 1979, he began specializing in middle-of-the-road acts by becoming the house sound man at Resorts Hotel in Atlantic City. He then moved to the Sands Hotel that same year. Four years later, he was on the road with Shirley MacLaine and Engelbert Humperdinck. Ann-Margret, Paul Anka, Liza Minnelli, Barry Manilow, Anita Baker, Julio Iglesias and Chris Isaak all followed, once word of Ken’s talent spread.

In 1994, Ken entered into the world of corporate shows, and kept busy doing audio for corporate events whenever he wasn’t working on a music show. In January of 2001, he joined the staff of Audio / Video Applications ( as full-time “Senior Audio Engineer”, and has handled the audio for such clients as Level (3), AMD, Honda, Hummer, Merck, Sun Microsystems, Merrill-Lynch, Lifetime Network, sanofi-aventis, Nissan, FNIC, Oracle, and many others.

He was able to tour with Barry Manilow once again for his “Manilow Live 2002” tour, which took him all over the US, as well as to the UK.

Upon completion of the tour, Ken returned to his position of Senior Audio Engineer at Audio Applications, and is currently in the process of expanding the company’s audio equipment inventory.

Happily married, Ken makes his home in Irvine, California, with his lovely wife Sondra and her two sons, along with his son from his first marriage, and their two dogs.
