Luke Malewicz

Product Used: AMT LSLM

“I have been using the AMT-LS clip on mic for over 5 years now and it is by far the best trombone mic I have used in live performance. It is unmatched in capturing the warm sound of the instrument.” – Luke Malewicz

Biography –
Born in Nowa Sol, Poland, Luke began trombone lessons at the age of seven and piano at the age of nine, studying under the direction of Janusz Gabryjelski. Before moving to the United States in 1994 he had already performed throughout Poland, Germany, and Belgium with a youth concert band (Młodzieżowa Orkiestra Dęta Zespołu Szkół Elektrycznych). Later, he showed exceptional talent by being selected for the IMEA Jazz Band all four years of high school and eventually becoming a member of the Youth Jazz Ensemble of DuPage.

After graduating from Indiana University in 2007 with a BM in Jazz Performance and a Performers Certificate, Luke moved to New York City where he received his Masters in Jazz Performance at the Manhattan School of Music. While attending MSM, he studied with Steve Turre, Luis Bonilla, and Elliot Mason. He also performed with the MSM Jazz Orchestra and Grammy Award Nominated Afro Cuban Jazz Orchestra at various prestigious venues, including Dizzy’s Club Coca Cola and Carnegie Hall.

Luke currently resides in Chicago, working as a freelance trombonist and educator. He has offered clinics at various Chicago area schools and colleges, including Downers Grove North High School, Oswego High School, Northern Illinois University and Indiana University. He has performed at some of Chicago’s most renowned jazz venues including the Jazz Showcase, Viper Lounge, Martyr’s, and the Green Mill. He has performed throughout the Midwest as well, such as Cliff Bell’s in Detroit, the Jazz Kitchen in Indianapolis, and the New York State Fair. Luke has also made numerous appearances on the WGN Morning News (Chicago, IL) and on PBS “Live at the Alley” (Valparaiso, IN).

Luke has performed with Ingrid Jensen, Stefon Harris, David Liebman, Elliot Mason, The Buselli-Wallarab Jazz Orchestra, the Rob Parton Big Band, Mary Wilson, The Four Tops, The Temptations, and the Grammy Award Winning Vanguard Jazz Orchestra.

Among his current projects Luke performs and tours with his own group, the Luke Malewicz Quintet, which recently finished an international tour performing his music to sold out venues in Warsaw and Krakow. The Luke Malewicz Quintet is comprised of some of the most talented musicians in the city and performs mainly original compositions. Luke’s unique style of composition relies heavily on melody and rhythm without complexity to keep even the most novice listener engaged in the music.
