Sarpay Özçağatay

“Sarpay plays the AMT Z1.” – Sarpay Özçağatay

Sarpay Özçağatay was born in Ankara, Turkey. He is a talented flutist, EWI player, award winner, Miyazawa Flutes artists, composer, performer, educator and a band leader has performed with many musicians and legends such as Ron Carter, George Garzone, Terri Lyne Carrington, Greg Osby, Steve Turre, Kevin Eubanks, Ed Tomassi, Eric Gould and more.

Sarpay-1He has performed many shows including 12th International Ankara Jazz Festival, Istanbul Jazz Festival, 7th Eskisehir Jazz festival and many private shows with his band in Turkey.

His bachelor degree is on classical flute performance from Hacettepe University State Conservatory. He also studied at the prestigious Beklee College of Music in a major of jazz performance as a full scholarship student. During his education at the college he was awarded Winner of Billboard Magazine Award of 11’ – 12’ through Berklee Colege of Music and he graduated in 2012 along with one of the highest GPA’s.

After his graduation he moved to New York City to pursue his musical career and he released his debut album “Unexpectable” on March, 2013. “Unexpectable” stands out as a ground breaking contemporary jazz flute achievement complemented by a full band experiment exploring the flute’s full potential in the language of Sarpay-2jazz and groove in contemporary music.

Sarpay is also endorsed by cutting-edge instrument microphone company Applied Microphone Technology. He uses AMT Z1 model. He is a studio musician as well and he has been being a side man in many recordings.

He has been performing his music at various well known jazz venues as well as performing with musicians from all over the world in the great New York City area.
