Ken Nigro is known as a clinician, performer and educator. He
presents workshops, clinics, and performs at conferences
throughout the Northeast. He’s appeared at venues such as the
Friehoffer's Jazz Festival (Hartford and Saratoga), the White Nights
Jazz Festival (Russia), Newport Jazz Festival (Saratoga), John
F. Kennedy Performing Arts Center (Washington, DC), and the
Trumbull Jazz Festival. Ken is a Yamaha Performing Artist.
Ken has taught saxophone, improvisation, woodwinds, and
ensembles at the college level since 1982. He first taught applied
saxophone at the University of Miami in Florida as a graduate
assistant; followed by Central Connecticut State University (5 years);
University of Connecticut (17 years); and currently at Naugatuck
Valley Community College in Connecticut (since 2004).
He now spends more time playing, composing and arranging. He
has written a saxophone textbook and articles about the
saxophone. The Ken Nigro Band is a nonet featuring music from
Supersax, original compositions, and unique arrangements of jazz
styles with vocals from the '50s up through the present. He has
worked with artists such as Aretha Franklin, John Pizzarelli, the
Temptations, Manhattan Transfer, New York Voices, Nelson Riddle
Orchestra, Joe Beck, Ernie Watts, and Doc Severinson. Ken is
featured as a soloist on the New Millennium Jazz Ensemble’s CD
which also features Bill Mays, Harvie Swartz and Dennis Mackrel.
Ken Nigro plays Yamaha saxophones and flutes, and uses AMT
Wi5C wireless and AMT LS clip on microphones.
