Mark Rivera was "born, bred, buttered and jammed" in Brooklyn NY. When he caught a glimpse of the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show, he was indelibly impacted and his path in life became crystal clear. "The idea of becoming a professional musician has never left my soul...no matter how hard I may try!"

To hone his professional skills, Mark attended the world-famous High School of Music & Performing Arts in Manhattan. Thus began Mark's globally diverse and multidimensional career as a performer, musician and musical director. In addition to playing soprano, alto, tenor and baritone saxophones, Mark's musical talents encompass vocals, guitar, percussion and keyboards.

Mark's first national exposure came with the band Tycoon in the mid-70's. From this venture he met - and has since developed - a lasting friendship with the legendary producer Robert John "Mutt" Lange. Lange, as part of an association with Mick Jones and Lou Gramm of Foreigner, introduced Mark to the 'big leagues' of rock music, recording and performing . Over the years, Mark has "had the pleasure" of working with some of the world's most prominent musicians including performing, touring and recording with: Hall & Oates; Peter Gabriel's ground breaking 'So' album - where Mark played and arranged the horns for 'Sledgehammer' and 'Big Time' - (Of his experience with 'Sledgehammer' Mark says "it was the most fun I ever had with my clothes on!"); Simon & Garfunkel; John Lennon; Billy Ocean; Eagle's guitarist Joe Walsh; and Curtis Blow's trend-breaking debut album that set off the world's rap revolution.

Of primary mention is Mark's association with Billy Joel and his band since the early 1980's. As a solid contributor to every tour band and many of Billy's gold records since 1982, Mark has delighted audiences around the world with his energetic and charismatic performance and musical prowess. In addition, Mark was invited to join Billy Preston, Felix Cavalieri, Grand Funk's Mark Farner, the Who's John Entwhistle, and Ringo's son Zak Starkey on Ringo Starr's All Starr Band Tour. The 1998 edition of the band includes Peter Frampton, Creme's Jack Bruce, and Procol Harum's Gary Brooker.

Ringo was once heard to say "Mark would have been ideal as the sixth Beatle (after Billy Preston) but he was living in Brooklyn and Queens (Shea Stadium) was a close as we got to him!"

Mark's work as a Musical Director has gained recognition from his natural musical leadership with Ringo Starr, the Northwest All Star Band, Billy Joel and, most recently, with Elton John. He has also developed a growing career in promoting and producing corporate entertainment and related events. His company, Creative Events, Inc., has produced events for HBO, IBM, Merrill Lynch, AT&T, Coldwell Banker, The China Club, Northwest Airlines, Oakwood Corporate Housing, and numerous trade associations, charitable events, and local/national educational groups. His professional endorsements include Harman International, Yamaha, Kaman Music and Korg USA, to name a few.

Mark's rich musical heritage and glowing presence have made a lasting impression on his millions of fans and numerous professional associates and friends. As Billy Joel says: "I never leave home (to tour) without Mark...he's a crown jewel of my band!"

I would like to express my thanks and love
